The Three Branches of Government

In 1787, the United States formed a new government. The laws of the new government were written in the U.S. Constitution. The Founders of the U.S. government had to decide what type of government to create. They did not want to give all the power to one person who could rule like a king. They decided to divide the government to make sure that no person got too powerful. They divided the government into three branches.
