An excellent example of how public speaking changed with television is the presidential campaign debates between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon in 1960.

Both men were intelligent and made logical arguments for why each of them should be president. But Kennedy seemed to look more relaxed on screen and people described him as "good looking." Nixon seemed to be sweating and people commented that he "needed a shave."
